New developments related to the grievances in gymnastics: two trainers are now being investigated – according to the public prosecutor’s office, it is about trying the dangerous bodily harm.
The Stuttgart public prosecutor has confirmed that several objects were searched for the massive allegations of grievances in gymnastics. Accordingly, forces from the Baden-Württemberg State Criminal Police Office were in use to advance the investigation at the base in Mannheim. In addition, an investigation against two trainers was initiated, the German press agency said.
“The procedure has an attempt at the dangerous bodily harm, committed at the Mannheim base,” said the public prosecutor’s office. According to the DPA information, this should be an incident in November 2016.
Investigations are still ongoing
After the allegations became known in gymnastics, young national coach Claudia Schunk had recently been released. It should not lead any courses and competitions for a period of four weeks, it said on the part of the German Turner Association. At the end of January, Schunk had told the SWR about her way of working: “The health of the gymnasts must always be in the top priority in relation to all training circumstances.”
In addition to the allegations at the Kunst-Turn-Forum in Stuttgart, the base in Mannheim was also criticized for harsh and authoritarian training methods. Schunk was there for a good ten years and worked until the end.
The DTB recently emphasized in a statement that “with this exemption was in no way anticipated the result of ongoing clarifications”. The public prosecutor also stated that the investigation was still going on.
