With a big spray Tan on his body and a snow -white smile on his face, Luco Hendrikx from Esbeek won the Bodybuilding Bodybuilding Championship last week. Because of his win, he can participate in the world -famous Bodybuild competition Mr. Olympia in Las Vegas. And that while the 22-year-old only discovered his passion for the gym two years ago after a motorcycle accident.
“Ever since I started Fitnesses, I thought it would be nice to participate,” says Hendrikx enthusiastically. “I was talking about it in the gym and then someone told that there was another competition soon, so then I immediately went looking for a trainer.”
“You can’t just eat everything on birthdays because then it goes wrong.”
He admits: “It was not easy, you really have to leave a lot for it.” Then Luco starts to laugh. “For example, on birthdays you can’t just eat everything, because then it goes wrong. And you are actually constantly hungry.”
But the result is allowed. Hendrikx registered for two classes of the Dutch Naturel Bodybuilden Championship. Without the use of prohibited agents such as steroids and growth hormones. “I finished second with the boys of my own age. I was very disappointed and then I had to stand men of different ages.”
Amazement
With low expectations, he entered the next round. To his own surprise, Hendrikx won and also in the final round he took the title. With that, the powerhouse from Esbeek can immediately participate in the well -known Mr. Olympia competition in Las Vegas.
“If I hadn’t had an accident, I might not have done this at all.”
“It was very cool, my family and group of friends were in the audience. It was a great moment,” he says. “I always think, everything happens for a reason. If I hadn’t had an accident, I might never have started doing this at all.”
Luco Fitnest has only been so fanatic for two years. “At first I always did motocrosses, which started as a youth hobby of mine,” he explains. Earlier, the 22-year-old had to rehabilitate for a while after a fall of the engine. But with a second fall it went wrong.

“I was there and knew right, this is not good. I had had an accident before and knew exactly how it felt.” He was badly injured in his knee and could not walk for a few weeks. “I couldn’t do anything and the recovery took a long time. That was very heavy mentally.”
During the rehabilitation, Luco went into the gym more and more intensively to have his injured knee strengthened. “After that I actually started training everything and started doing that more and more.”

Healthy or not?
“My parents support Me completely, “he laughs.” Except if I were to go to the forbidden resources, then the fun is done. ”
Yet Hendrikx agrees that bodybuilding is not always good for you. “In fact, everything around bodybuilding is healthy. You eat healthy, exercise a lot and you are consciously busy with your body. Only the extent on which is less healthy. Especially in the run -up to a competition.”
“I became very emotional and didn’t really want anymore.”
During a competition it is important to become as ‘dry’ as possible. That means that you have as little fat on your muscles as possible. Luco eats too little for that in the run -up to the competitions. His hormones also get a lot of confidence. “A few days before the game I just didn’t have a puff anymore, I got very emotional and actually didn’t want to. But if you win, it will be worth it again.”
In November, the 22-year-old boarded the plane to the United States to stand there among the largest muscle bundles in his class. “I will soon be there between men who have been professionally exercising professionally for ten to fifteen years, while I have only been busy for two years. That is really a huge honor.”
