After narrowly missing out on victory at the Four Hills Tournament, Andreas Wellinger has announced a new attack.

“At some point we will crack the planer so that the Golden Eagle is with us again. I don’t know yet how many years we will have to wait for that. Hopefully only one more,” said the Olympic ski jumping champion on Saturday in Bischofshofen.

After a strong tour, Wellinger only had to give way to the Japanese Ryoyu Kobayashi. It was the seventh podium finish for a DSV Adler in the past nine years – but it wasn’t enough for the first victory in 22 years.

“We want it every year, we didn’t manage it this year either. But at some point we can’t stop it, at some point it will work. The quality in our team and the effort we put into it are too great,” said Wellinger .

Ski jumping: DSV Adler have to “fight for another year”

DSV sports director Horst Hüttel made similar comments. “We take it sportily. We’ve won everything in the past – the Olympics, the overall World Cup, the Ski Flying World Championships. We’ve waited ten or 20 years for that. Now we just have to fight for another year,” said the DSV official.

But Hüttel also admitted: “There are tears in my eyes, of course, because the tour started so euphorically. Then of course you dream. But second place is also great. We can’t blame ourselves, Andi can’t blame himself. Now Let’s just keep fighting, we don’t have another chance.”
