After the signing of Cologne legend Timo Horn, series champions Red Bull Salzburg, as expected, said goodbye to their previous substitute goalkeeper Nico Mantl. The 23-year-old German will play for Viborg FF on loan in Denmark until the end of the season. The contract of the former U21 team player in the Mozart city runs until 2025.

This is Mantl’s second loan to Denmark; last spring he worked for Aalborg BK, with whom he was relegated from the top flight. Back in Salzburg, he was unable to assert himself against ÖFB goalkeeper Alexander Schlager this season and was only used once.

“Due to Lucas Lund’s injury situation, we preferred to sign a new goalkeeper as early as possible to give him as much warm-up time as possible with the rest of the team, and we also have a full goalkeeping team for all training games. “We are therefore very happy that Mantl is now ready for the VFF,” said Viborg sports director Mads Agesen about the loan.
