Gary Glitter was released from prison on the Isle of Portland in Britain after eight years in prison. He has now served half his sentence – in 2015 a London court convicted him of multiple child molestation.

Strict conditions were imposed on the 78-year-old, British media such as The Sun and The Daily Mail reported. He must wear an electronic tag and inform the authorities if he enters into a relationship with a person who has a minor child. In the UK it is common for a prison sentence to be suspended halfway through.

The former glam rock star is a registered sex offender in the UK. In 1997 he was sentenced to several months in prison after child pornography was discovered on his laptop. He later emigrated to Cambodia but was deported on suspicion of child abuse. In 2005, authorities in Vietnam arrested and sentenced him. The next arrest followed in 2012 in connection with the abuse scandal involving the late BBC presenter Jimmy Savile. After completing the investigation and the trial in 2015, he received his most recent prison sentence.
