Argentine world champion

At 38, Nicolás Otamendi hasn’t had enough of professional football yet. The Argentine central defender will continue his career after the World Cup in his home country with CA River Plate. The move will be free of charge because Otamendi’s contract with Benfica expires in the summer. The 2022 world champion will receive a working paper for one year.

Otamendi appeared most often for Benfica in his career, a total of 281 times. The veteran moved there from Manchester City in September 2020 for 15 million euros. Adding up all the transfers, the defensive professional generated 75.5 million euros in transfer revenue – putting him in 14th place among all Argentine footballers. Otamendi had the highest market value in his career at the beginning of 2018, when his valuation was 35 million euros.
