Wolverhampton Wanderers have provisionally suspended left-back Jonny Otto following an “incident on the training pitch”. The 29-year-old was therefore not part of the squad for the last two games and did not train with the team. On Friday, athletic director Matt Hobbs reported that he met with Otto to discuss the incident. The Spaniard apologized and accepted the club’s decision to exclude him from the first team until the end of January. What exactly happened was not discussed.
“He will continue to train with the club and if he wants he can play for the U21s to maintain his playing strength. I think knowing him, he probably will,” Hobbs explained. “He is a man who has done the club a great service. A single incident does not define the role he played in the successful times or the man he is every day at the club. Everyone has their moments, but we have to deal with them and look forward for the entire team.” This season he only played four minutes in the Premier League – Otto was a regular in 2018/19 and 2019/20 before he suffered knee injuries kept him out of action for a long time and caused him to miss 69 competitive games.

Whether Otto, who is the eighth most expensive signing in the club’s history with a transfer fee of 21 million euros and has played 134 games for the “Wolves” so far, again for the current table 13th. the Premier League is open. “It makes sense to give it until the end of January, because a lot can change by then, and then we will sit down again, talk and decide how to proceed,” emphasized Hobbs. Otto’s contract, who was already considered a candidate for departure last summer, is valid until 2025.
