A 21-year-old climbs under the stadium roof at the European Championship in Dortmund and is brought down by the police. Now he gets the bill for it.
The climbing tour through the roof of the Dortmund stadium at the European Championship round of round last June had an expensive aftermath for a 21-year-old from Osnabrück: the police said he sent a decision over 12,076.93 euros for the operating costs. A total of 108 police officers, including a special command (SEK), were involved.
“A large part of the amount is 9,973.00 euros on the personnel costs of the emergency services,” said a spokesman for the Dortmund police. In addition, the costs for checking and ensuring the backpack by officials from the State Criminal Police Office NRW and for the use of the police helicopter were incurred.
So far, the young man only had to pay a penalty order of over 1,050 euros for trespassing. The police spokesman said that the police spokesman should also be added. The amount depends on the individual case.
The man was discovered at the European Championship quarter-finals between Germany and Denmark under the stadium roof. According to “Spiegel”, he had already climbed up the evening before to take photos. He therefore belongs to the “Roofer” scene, as people who climb at daring heights. He was caught at the Ulm Münster in October.
According to the police spokesman, specialists from the State Criminal Police Office examined the backpack on explosives and found camera equipment. The investigation had confirmed that the young man “wanted to take photos on the roof”.
The police give the person concerned the opportunity to “comment on the matter of a fee before issuing a fee”. The Osnabrück lawyer already announced in the “Spiegel” not to accept the decision. The security forces were already on site. According to the police, the man can submit a lawsuit to the Gelsenkirchen Administrative Court. On request, however, “a payment in installments is possible.”
North Rhine-Westphalia’s Interior Minister Herbert Reul (CDU) supports the decision to invoice the young man’s costs. It “is absolutely correct and a warning signal to everyone to adhere to the rules of the game!”
