After a year without a club: Fonseca becomes the new coach at LOSC Lille

Successor found for Gourvennec

LOSC Lille have unveiled Paulo Fonseca as their new manager. As the club announced on Wednesday, the Portuguese signed a contract until 2024. Fonseca succeeds Jocelyn Gourvennec, who was dismissed after just one year in office after a disappointing tenth place in the table last season. Lille is Fonseca’s seventh stop in a country’s top division. The 49-year-old worked as a coach at AS Roma from 2019 until last summer, where he scored an average of 1.77 points in 101 games.

Since then, Fonseca has been linked with a move to the Premier League. According to his own statements from September 2021, he agreed with Tottenham before the start of last season before an engagement burst. He was later reported to have been among the takeover candidates at Newcastle United, Aston Villa and Manchester United when the clubs were looking for managers during the season.
