The Skyliners Frankfurt lose the face of the club. Quantez Robertson has announced the end of his career after 14 years. Because of an injury, he can no longer even help the Hessians in the relegation battle.

Quantez Robertson announced his retirement early on Monday. The Skyliners Frankfurt shooting guard can no longer play for the Hessians threatened with relegation due to a persistent foot injury. The team doctors advised him to end his career.

“An era comes to an end”

“I thank everyone for the love and support. Frankfurt has become a second home for me,” said the 38-year-old in a video message. The American laced his basketball shoes for the Skyliners for 14 years. He spent his entire professional career in Hesse.

“An era is coming to an end. I don’t have the words to describe Tez’s career,” said Skyliners boss Gunnar Wöbke. “What he has done for the club over the past 14 years is second to none.”

highly decorated Players with a title

Robertson is one of the most decorated players in the Basketball Bundesliga (BBL). With 742 steals, he is the undisputed leader in the list of the best ball thieves in the league. The league also leads him in the top ten lists for three-pointers (1860, third place) and rebounds (2217, fifth place). His total of 4425 points for the Skyliners is enough for eleventh place in league history. He was named the BBL’s Best Defensive Player in the 2015–16 season.

“We can all count ourselves very lucky to have had such a great player with us for so many years. You rarely see such loyalty to his club,” praised Wöbke. Robertson won the 2016 Fiba Europe Cup with the Skyliners. The shooting guard was voted the most valuable player of the finals, in which he had a decisive part in winning the title with 15 points.

Farewell game planned

After the season, Robertson will receive a farewell game in Frankfurt. An exact date has not yet been set. His jersey with the number 23 is then pulled under the hall ceiling. No other player will wear that jersey number again with the Skyliners. “It makes me proud and happy that we can now hang his jersey next to Pascal Roller’s,” said Wöbke.
