German mayor Iris Stalzer in danger of life after knife attack in Herdecke, children (15 and 17) taken from home in handcuffs
Large traces of blood were removed from the house before emergency services arrived, meaning it is possible that the life-threatening mother may have been sitting in the armchair while efforts were made to remove the traces. The daughter called 911 herself.
Out of danger
The victim, 57-year-old social democrat and lawyer Iris Stalzer, is now out of danger. The motive is still unclear. Tensions were said to have occurred more often within the family. The 15-year-old adopted son was home during the attack. His role is still under investigation.

The ministry now considers the attack not as an attempted manslaughter, but as dangerous bodily harm, Bild reports. This is due to the fact that the adopted daughter herself alerted the emergency services. This is assessed as a so-called “dismissal from the law” and therefore no arrest warrant was requested.
