Actor Danny Masterson was sentenced for rape faces 30 years

Danny Masterson The 47-year-old actor was found guilty of rape by the jury in his Los Angeles defendant’s trial. Jurors reached a unanimous verdict on two counts against him as it split on a third charge, with 8 out of 12 jurors finding him guilty of the rape of a third girl. The violence dates back to more than 20 years ago and the three victims are former members of the Church of Scientology of which Masterson is a prominent exponent.

The actor was deemed to be at risk of flight and was immediately handcuffed and taken to jail, as requested by Judge Charlaine Olemedo. According to American media he faces up to 30 years in prison. In addition to the amazement at the sentence, Danny Masterson would have been surprised by the fact that he was handcuffed and taken to prison. There wife Bijou Phillips, family and friends were shocked. Masterson had already ended up on trial for the same charges last year but the jury of the first trial in December 2022 had not reached a unanimous verdict. After new evidence arrived, Masterson was retried and was therefore found guilty.

Danny Masterson he became famous thanks to the tv series That ’70s Show in which he starred alongside Ashton Kutcher, who he then found a few years later in the TV series The Ranch of Netflix. Just as he was busy with this TV series, in 2017, in the midst of the #MeToo period, some rape allegations emerged dating back to the years between 2001 and 2003. The actor was thus immediately fired from the Netflix series. According to the indictment the Church of Scientology allegedly protected Masterson and silenced the girls. Prosecutor George Gascon, commenting on the sentence, wanted to thank the courage of the three women who decided to testify.

In this second trial, the prosecutor placed particular emphasis on forms of control operated by Scientology about these women and Masterson’s role within the church. Scientology members reportedly advised the girls to avoid going to the police and rely only on the church’s internal justice system. After the complaints in the wake of the Me Too movement and a first bankruptcy process, today Masterson is in jail and faces 30 years for rape.
