Due to the planned limitation of unemployment benefits, ACOD expects a sharp increase in living wage applications. “OCMWs are in danger of being overwhelmed. Social workers will no longer have time for guidance, only for administration,” says Gert Vlasselaer (ACOD).

The trade union states that at least 500 extra social workers are needed in Flanders. “The pressure is only increasing” testifies Sofie Moerkerke, bridge figure in a primary school. Also within the residential care, the high workload sometimes leads to aggression of clients.

In the meantime, the ABVV has filed a complaint with the Constitutional Court against the limitation of unemployment benefits.
