“It shouldn’t have happened like that”

After Transfermarkt’s advice regarding the loan regulations in the Bundesliga, Werder Bremen’s sports director Clemens Fritz admitted a misjudgment. “There was an internal, communicative misunderstanding on this point that we stumbled upon,” said the ex-professional to the “Deichstube” portal.

At the beginning of November, Werder declared that they would not be able to sign any more loans because they had already made six loans; a misunderstanding that Transfermarkt cleared up in December. Fritz told the “Bild” newspaper: “The tip that our assumption was wrong came from transfermarkt.de in December. I then had the matter checked by the DFL.” The sports boss takes responsibility for this. “The incident really upsets us because it shouldn’t have happened like that,” admitted Fritz.

In January, Werder managed to bring another loan player into the squad, Jovan Milosevic from VfB Stuttgart. So far, Karl Hein (Arsenal), Yukinari Sugawara (Southampton), Cameron Puertas (Al-Qadsiah), Maximilian Wöber as well as Isaac Schmidt (Leeds United) and Victor Boniface (Bayer 04 Leverkusen) have been on loan. Last Sunday, number seven Milosevic was added (all players on loan from Bundesliga clubs at a glance).
