Bayern coach Julian Nagelsmann visited the volunteers at Fire Station 4 in Munich-Schwabing after his unfortunate “fire brigade” statement. The Munich coach again apologized for his formulation in the past week.

Nagelsmann: fire brigade saying “unhappily worded”

“My statement about the volunteer fire brigade in the press conference last week was worded unhappily. I never wanted to discredit the volunteer fire brigade or any volunteer helper,” Nagelsmann wrote on Monday after his visit to social media.

Before the top game against Borussia Dortmund on Saturday, the 34-year-old said to motivate his team: “We’re not with the volunteer fire brigade in southern Giesing, we’re with FC Bayern Munich.”

Nagelsmann was concerned with the word “voluntary”

Nagelsmann made it clear again that his statement was “purely about the word voluntary”. He had already explained on the Sky TV channel on Saturday that he wanted to express that his players were employed – and in that sense not playing voluntarily. On Instagram he wrote: “Even before the visit, it was clear to me what an important role each individual volunteer plays and how important volunteering is.”
