According to Quentin Tarantino, we live in “the worst era in Hollywood history”

Is this the culture pessimist speaking? Quentin Tarantino has compared different decades of Hollywood – and does not leave a good hair on the current condition of the dream factory. He complained on a podcast: “Although the ’80s was the time when I probably saw more films in my life than I’ve ever seen – at least as far as going to the cinema goes – I feel like ’80s cinema – years along with the ’50s is the worst era in Hollywood history. It is only surpassed by the current era!”

Worst Hollywood

In fact, the director doesn’t grab his criticism out of thin air: In the 1950s, television plunged cinema into its first crisis. After all, the 1980s were characterized by action films with no real ambitions in terms of content and serial films shot in an assembly line style. Nowadays, the same superhero films dominate the big screen.

The delicacies taste even better

But even today is not the end of every day. Tarantino noted that blockbuster weariness has only heightened his appreciation for films that are non-conforming and “stand out from the crowd.” He recently expressed contempt for Marvel films. Referring to the dying out of the big Hollywood musicals in the 1960s, the 59-year-old said he “can’t wait until they can say the same about superhero films”.
