Abu Dhabi GP classification, with Alonso and Sainz live

ROUND 18/58

The new leader is Yuki Tsunoda! All those in front change their strategy due to the scrum that Fernando caused with his stop. Sainz is now third, although without stopping. Lance, Fernando’s partner, second.

ROUND 17/58

For Verstappen! The Dutchman does not want risks and goes two stops, like everyone. He leaves the pits behind Carlos Sainz, who is already sixth -although without stopping-.

ROUND 16/58

Verstappen, Leclerc and Tsunoda maintain their strategy. They complete the top 3. The Mercedes and the McLaren are going with the opposite strategy, along with Alonso.

ROUND 15/58

Russell and Norris stop! Bad stop for the McLaren driver, who loses position. Russell Alonso comes out ahead, close to the dance behind Piastri. Lots of strategic warfare at this point.

ALONSO VS PIASTRI

The Asturian driver anticipated everyone’s change of strategy and almost passed Oscar Piastri with an undercut. The McLaren driver was able to maintain the position.

ROUND 14/58

Verstappen continues to command with a 1.7 difference over Leclerc. Behind Norris, almost three seconds behind.

FOR FERNANDO

Fernando is going two stops! The Aston Martin driver will look for a changed strategy from those in front and will go two. He rides the hard ones. He comes out of the pits in 18th position.

ROUND 11/58

Come in Russell! The Briton overtakes Piastri’s McLaren and is now fourth.

STOPS

For now, all the drivers ahead are aiming for a one-stop strategy. The differences are not getting bigger or smaller, so it seems that they share going from medium to hard in the middle of the race.

ROUND 10/58

With these positions, Ferrari would gain second place from Mercedes in the constructors’ championship.

ROUND 9/58

Max Verstappen maintains the difference with Leclerc, second, at 1.5. Behind comes Lando Norris. Piastri defends himself from George Russell, who is looking to be fourth. Behind, Checo Pérez is progressing and is now going after Gasly, eighth. Bad news for Fernando Alonso, who is seventh and cannot yet pass Tsunoda.

ROUND 8/58

Daniel Ricciardo enters the pitlane to remove a tear-off that got stuck in a duct. He takes the opportunity to remove the means and puts in hard things. Second stop of the race.

ROUND 7/58

George Russell and Oscar Piastri fight for fourth place. The top 3 remains above: Max, Leclerc and Norris. Fernando Alonso remains seventh and Carlos Sainz remains 13th.

VERSTAPPEN VS LECLERC

This was the battle in the first meters! Leclerc was about to overtake Max, but the Dutchman defended well.

ROUND 6/58

First stop is for Kevin Magnussen due to a flat tire. Ride hard.

ROUND 5/58

Change in the top 3: Lando Norris is now third. He passed Piastri and now goes for Charles Leclerc, second. Max Verstappen escapes into the lead. Fernando Alonso continues behind Tsunoda and is seventh. Carlos Sainz passed Hulkenberg and moved up to 13th place.

ROUND 5/58

Hamilton avoids a penalty and returns Checo Pérez to the position he took from him at the start, overtaking on the outside.

ROUND 3/58

From now on you can use the DRS and there will be action now.

ROUND 2/58

First step across the finish line. Tsunoda recovered the position of Fernando Alonso and the Asturian is seventh. Verstappen leads, with Leclerc second and Piastri third. The other McLaren, Norris, is fourth. Carlos Sainz progressed a couple of positions and is now 14th.

EXIT

The Abu Dhabi GP begins! Very clean first meters. Fernando Alonso gained a position, he is sixth.

ALL READY

The drivers are joining the grid! This is about to begin.

STATISTICS

The winner of the last eight races of the Abu Dhabi GP started from pole. Max Verstappen has it in his face.

TRAINING RETURN

The drivers are already rolling in Yas Marina with the warm-up lap! All with medium tires except Carlos Sainz, Stroll and Bottas.

GRILL

Let’s go over the grill again! Five minutes until the formation lap begins in Yas Marina and thus the last race of the 2023 F1 season will begin. Fernando Alonso, seventh, fighting for fifth place in the championship. Carlos Sainz, 16th after a bad Q1.

GEORGE RUSSELL

“The car feels good, the pace will be strong, so it will be a tight battle with Lando and Max,” commented the Mercedes driver to the ‘DAZN’ microphones. The British will start fourth.

WITHOUT CHANGES

At the start of the next F1 season there will be an unprecedented event: there will be no changes to the drivers who finish in 2023! Only with the Ricciardo-De Vries change that was made during this campaign, everyone will start 2024 with the same teams -except for some winter news-.

FERNANDO ALONSO

The Aston Martin driver opened up about his possibility of maintaining fifth place in the championship. “Lando starts in front of me and the McLarens are going very fast, so I think I’m going to lose the position with him in Drivers, but what interests us most is Constructors.” With the last race remaining, McLaren is fourth with 284 points and Aston Martin fifth, with 273. Piastri will start third, Norris fifth, Fernando seventh and Lance Stroll 13th.

CARLOS SAINZ

The Ferrari driver had trouble putting in a good lap in Q1 and finished 16th. Today the fourth driver’s place is at stake, since he is tied at 200 points with Fernando Alonso and is close to Lando Norris (195) and Charles Leclerc (188). “We are going to give everything to try to come back as much as possible. It is clear that things have not gone well,” he warned yesterday.
