Abel makes a comeback with new music 24 years after hit ‘Onderweg’

The Breda band Abel, known for the number 1 hit ‘Onderweg’ from 2000, is making a comeback with new music. It is the first time in thirteen years that the band has gone into the studio to make new music.

The whole of the Netherlands sang along en masse to ‘Onderweg’ at the beginning of this century. The first line of the song, ‘I close the door’, became almost more famous than the title itself. In 2000, Abel stormed the charts out of nowhere. The song spent six weeks at number one in the Top 40. Now, almost 24 years later, it is time for a comeback.

The band around singer Joris Rasenberg recently entered the studio to record new music. The first single ‘Do you see it too’ is the start of a new album that will be released later. “It started to itch again,” says Rasenberg. “The urge to create something was great.”

First on Omroep Brabant
The new single will be released next Friday. Anyone who is curious should turn on the radio on Thursday morning. From seven in the morning, Abel singer Joris Rasenberg will be a guest of Koen Wijn in the morning show Wakker! on Omroep Brabant. The song can be heard there for the first time on Dutch radio.

New performances
Abel last released new music in 2010. In 2022 there was a one-off reunion at the Breda Live festival. This will now be continued, because the band also plans to give performances again.
