ABBA provide clarity regarding a possible ESC appearance in 2024

Obviously, ABBA will not perform at the Eurovision Song Contest in Sweden next year. ESC 2024 will be the 50th iteration of the event following the Swedish pop group’s victory in 1974. Still, Björn Ulvaeus and Benny Andersson, one half of ABBA, have ruled out showing up at the competition, let alone performing. There is “no chance,” Andersson underlined his point of view in an interview.

“I do not want. And if I don’t want to, then neither will the others. That’s how it is with the four of us. When someone says ‘no’, it means ‘no,'” Andersson told the BBC. “We can celebrate 50 years of ABBA without being on stage,” added Ulvaeus. However, Agnetha Fältskog and Anni-Frid Lyngstad have not commented on a possible appearance at the event.

The band had won the Eurovision Song Contest in 1974 with their hit “Waterloo” achieved international fame and has been one of the most commercially successful music groups of all time ever since. ABBA will release the new studio album VOYAGE in 2021 after the band had not released a record for almost 40 years.

Since the Swede Loreen won the ESC 2023 in Liverpool, the spectacle will take place in Sweden next year. The German representatives, Lord of the Lost, ended up in last place this year.
