A truck ended up next to the A37 at the Holsloot junction this morning. The driver died, the police said.
Due to the accident, the highway towards Hoogeveen is closed at the level of the Holsloot junction. According to a spokesperson for Rijkswaterstaat, this will certainly last until 3.30 p.m. The truck and the load must be stored and repairs are needed on the road surface and the roadside.
The truck is loaded with steel beams. This material is now being transferred and brought away. As long as the road is completely closed, traffic towards Hoogeveen is diverted via the N34.
The accident happened just before 6 a.m. The truck tilted in a ditch. Emergency services have removed the truck driver from the truck’s cabin. In addition to fire brigade, police and ambulances, a trauma helicopter was also on the scene of the accident. According to the police, the driver died of his injuries on the spot.
The cause of the accident is being investigated.
