A22 motorway, over 20 vehicles involved in a series of accidents

A series of clashes occurred due to poor visibility. 11 injuries were reported

Eleven non-serious injuries is the result of a series of rear-end collisions which occurred on Saturday 17 February in the morning on the A22 Modena-Brennero motorway in the stretch between Nogarole Rocca and Mantua Nord. The motorway was closed for more than four hours between the junctions with the A1 and A4, from Modena to Verona. The accidents occurred on both carriageways, with very reduced visibility due to fog. 21 cars and a truck were involved in the accidents. Eleven people were taken to hospitals: two – one with a chest trauma and the other with multiple concussions – at Borgo Trento in Verona, 8 other adults and a minor at Carlo Poma in Mantua. The southern carriageway was reopened at 1.45pm while the northern one around 3pm. Traffic on the provincial roads around Mantua, due to the closure of the motorway toll booths, went haywire for many hours.

70 km queue

Last February 5th, fog had also caused a series of accidents on the A22 in which around a hundred vehicles, from km 288 to 294, heading south, were involved, resulting in a queue of around seventy kilometres. In that case, 25 people were injured while a truck driver died in another accident on the same motorway.
