The Australian cricket community is shocked by the incident.

Australian cricketer Ben Austin died in a nasty accident in Melbourne when a ball hit him in the neck.

According to The Guardian the accident occurred while 17-year-old Austin was practicing his strokes before a match. The ball hit him at high speed in the neck with fatal consequences.

Despite the immediate first aid measures, Austin’s life could not be saved.

According to the Kriketti.fi website in a cricket pitch, the ball can have a speed of up to 150-160 kilometers per hour.

The Ferntree Gully Cricket Club team posted the sad news on Facebook. The accident has understandably shocked the club community deeply.

– We are saddened by Ben’s death. Our entire cricket community is deeply saddened by Ben’s passing. Our thoughts are with his family and loved ones, the club writes.
