Former Babyshambles guitarist Patrick Walden died a few days ago on June 20, at the age of 46. Now Peter Doherty has remembered his long -time friend and musical companion in a contribution.

At the beginning of his message, a letter printed in a typewriter, the front man of the Babyshambles and the co -founder of The Libertines recalls a small gesture from earlier times: “[Er] always called me Petey! Huh!? ” And then: “Jesus is a stab in the heart,” writes the singer on Instagram. “You gave joy so damn many people, buddy.”
With these words, Doherty begins his personal homage to Walden, with which he closely worked on in the early days of the Babyshambles. Together they wrote to songs for the 2005 debut album Down in Albion, which is still the milestone of the British indie rock.
Nights in the studio and a tattoo in Mexico
In the letter, Doherty also shares memories of intensive nights in the studio: “I remember the nights when we slept on the floor in the Rooz Studio or worked on ‘Pipedown’ until dawn.”
Peter Doherty also describes a moment from Mexico: “I was there the other day, and a boy on the street had a tattoo of you and a French Shambles dog on my chest. The next day I let the dog tattoo. I wanted to call you and tell you. Now I’ll tell you, Pat, my friend.”
Walden’s influence on Babyshambles
Patrick Walden was an integral part of the Babyshambles in the early years and decisively shaped her sound. He wrote on several songs of the record Down in Albion, including the fan favorites “Pipedown”, “Loyalty Song” and the single “Fuck Forever”, which made it to 4th place on the British charts.
Shortly after the record was published, Patrick Walden left the band and was replaced by Mick Whitnall. Despite his exit, he always returned for live performances over the years. At the end of his post, Peter Doherty addresses a last word to his old friend: “To know that you were loved and will be missing. All your friends and family – peace in peace, pat.”

As a band, Babyshambles published an official statement on Patrick Walden’s death on June 20. It says: “We feel very happy to have known, loved and worked with him. We ask for respect and privacy in this difficult time.”
Most recently, Peter Doherty, bassist Drew McConnell and drummer Adam Ficek, surprisingly had a Babyshambles appearance at the beginning of the year-among other things with the songs “Albion” and “Fuck Forever”. This had triggered speculation about a possible complete comeback from the band. On May 16 of this year, Felt Better Alive, the fifth solo studio album by Peter Doherty.
