A serious accident in a Finnish TV series: “The artery broke”

Petri works long hours at Grand Designs in Finland.

Injuries cannot be avoided when Peter and Sanae start realizing their dream of a 613-square-meter home.

Grand Designs Finland Petri, who you will meet in this week’s episode, is a master builder with extensive experience. That’s why he decides to take care of all possible laundry and chores himself. At the construction site, it is suspected that Petri, who describes himself as a megalomaniac, has taken too big a piece. Then the health worries start, which is enough.

First, the more usual norovirus and corona enter the picture. After that, the accidents start at the construction site. Petri falls twice. He comes down from the scaffolding on the second floor and almost immediately after drops from three meters while removing the molds. At this point, Petri takes strong painkillers three times a day to be able to move.

Petri does everything possible himself. To help, he rents a crane that costs 5,000 euros per month. It’s just a shame that it can cause damage. MTV3

The architect Samppa Lappalainen, who hosts the series, starts to worry about Petri and Sanae already at this point. He doesn’t know yet that much worse is to come.

– I have to say that now I am really worried about this object, Samppa tells the cameras.

– Petri’s health is worrying under enormous pressure and work. Even Sanaen’s resources are running out with two small children.

Petri works almost non-stop, even though as a professional in the construction industry he knows their importance to, among other things, occupational safety. MTV3

Petri limits the initial 16-hour working days to 12 hours, or at least he tries. The most serious accidents happen at the end of a long, drawn-out day. One Saturday evening, Petri has decided to saw one more plywood. With hindsight, it should have remained uncut.

– I sprained my wrist. Three tendons and five nerves were severed. And the artery was severed. You should always know how to take breaks, but when I can’t, Petri scolds himself afterwards.

Samppa Lappalainen (right) is genuinely concerned about Petri’s – and also Sanae’s – coping. MTV3

The left hand stays in the package for at least two months. Petri still does not stay on sick leave, but continues at the construction site. Going to Samppa is terrible.

– When I heard about Petri’s accident, I really started to worry. Now, one person can’t finish a house of that size with one hand.

Only Petri still does that.

Originally, Petri and Sanae had building rights for 200 square meters. – We applied for an exemption. It got a little out of hand, Petri says on TV. David OWeger, MTV3

Petri in particular has needed a lot of space in his home. There are a couple of dozen people present at a family party. David OWeger, MTV3
