A New York police officer broke down crying after avoiding another agent that a man commits suicide on Manhattan overpassa moment that was captured by the body camera from the police.
The video, released this week, shows officers Carl Fayette and Eleodoro Mata calming the man while on the shoulder of the Riverside Drive elevated freeway in Manhattan on October 5.

“I’ve been in your shoes, man. It’s not worth it,” Fayette tells him. “I’ve been in your shoes, brother, and there are solutions. There is a way to make sure you get out of this situation.” “I think you are a good man. You are a good man and I promise you brother that we will do everything in our power to help you. Please listen to me.”
The police spoke with the man for almost 40 minutes until Emergency Services Unit officers were able to rescue him, according to the NYPD, which noted that its officers “frequently interact with people who they are having the worst day of their lives“.
Police Officers Fayette and Mata responded to a suicidal male who wanted to jump from an overpass.
They spoke to the man with genuine empathy to let him know they cared and that help was available, & with the assistance of our @NYPDSpecialopsthey got him help.

During the police response, Fayette tells the man that the city has resources available to help him with whatever he is going through, based on body camera footage.

“Let us help you. There is many resources available here for you,” adds Mata. “We are here for you, everyone is here for you. We will help you. You are stronger than this, as Carl told you many times. Are you. You can beat this with our help. Come back brother, come back.”
As Fayette continues to provide support, others rush in and grab the man. They take him to a safe place, while Fayette, who he can no longer contain his emotionsruns towards a police vehicle. He leans over and starts sobbing as the video from his body camera shows. Two other officers approach to comfort him.
