Milano, 12 March. (askanews) – A small book that can help children overcome their fear of the dark and, at the same time, avoid wasting energy. Goodnight Light is a new communication project by Plenitude which aims to encourage energy saving while at the same time helping children to overcome fears related to the dark.
“We carried out an analysis – explained Giorgia Molajoni, Chief Technology and Communication Officer of Plenitude to askanews – by asking children and young people what the most recurrent fears were and many highlighted a fundamentally classic and ancient fear, which is the fear of the dark. Some also mentioned a concern for the planet, for the Earth, and therefore we decided to combine these two ideas to create Goodnight Light“.
Research by Doxa carried out in collaboration with Plenitude in Italy, Spain and France to support this international project has highlighted that three out of four children between 3 and 9 years old, especially when they go to sleep or when they wake up at night, are afraid of the dark.
How Goodnight Light can you help them? “It is a special book that can be read in the dark – the Plenitude manager replied to us -. Inside it is totally luminescent and allows the boy or girl to discover Ombro, a character who is precisely the representation of darkness. Through this story the child learns to become friends with Ombro, even obtaining a friendship certificate. He can also go around the house and apply light stickers on the switches to create small points of light, while his room remains dark. In this way we contribute to building a routine that helps the child to go to sleep peacefully, helping him to overcome the fear of the dark and, above all, we avoid having a brightly lit house, with rooms and corridors lit, while the child sleeps”.
The idea is also to create a bedtime ritual, which helps children reduce their anxieties and find support in overcoming them. At the same time avoiding energy waste and getting even the little ones used to thinking in terms of attention to the planet and the environment. “We would like – concluded Giorgia Molajoni – that this book, which when opened transforms into a bright star, could be present on as many bedside tables as possible, so as to have fewer and fewer lights on and encourage energy saving, also in line with our mission as a Benefit Society, which envisages purposes of common benefit for the environment and people, also involving the new generations”.
Created in collaboration with the authors Elisa Binda and Mattia Perego and the illustrator Hello Saris, the book, which will be distributed free of charge on 20 and 21 March at the Plenitude flagship stores participating in the initiative, was printed with a special ink that appears only in the dark and recharges with daylight.
