A life up, the book by Sara Simeoni with Marco Franzelli

No.In my generation, the first adolescent disturbances are usually linked to Rosa Comic and Gloria Guida, to the first TV broadcasts a little less chaste and to the little films forbidden to minors. My first adolescent disturbances are instead linked to Sara Simeoni.

I also liked Romina Power and Carolina di Monaco; but I liked Sara Simeoni even more, for two reasons. The first: she didn’t know she was beautiful, or rather he didn’t care. Instead Romina and Carolina, evidently, were very keen. This I believe is a secret of female charm.

Difficult to fall in love with a lady fresh from a hairdresser, or a cosmetic surgeon. Not because they are ugly, but because they convey the idea of not being sure of themselves, of being focused on the idea of pleasing themselves and others.

Sara Simeoni, on the other hand, was an athletics warrior; and here lies the second reason for her fascination. It is not true that men (or most men) like submissive women. Men I know like women with personality. And Sara Simeoni, behind a shy and reserved aspect, was a crazy agonist.

“Una vita al alto” by Sara Simeoni with Marco Franzelli (Rai Libri).

Objectively, she remains the greatest Italian athlete of all time: she changed three styles of high jump, scissor, ventral and fosbury; he took the Italian record at 1 and 71 and brought it to 2 and 01, world record; he was a finalist in four Olympics, three times on the podium, gold in Moscow; even if the best race of him was the final of the European Championships in Prague 1978, closed with the world record in the middle of the night on the wet track, one of the greatest feats in the history of sport.

But beyond the medals, Sara competed in a world where women in t-shirts and shorts were viewed with suspicion.: the Federation sent them to sleep with the nuns. She tells it herself, in the book A life above, written with Marco Franzelli and published by RaiLibri. (And anyway go to Google and compare today’s Sara with Romina and Carolina: she is not there, Simeoni has always been the most beautiful).
