A group of young people throw stones at the squatters of Bonanova, who respond with throws

  • The Mossos have cut traffic in the vicinity until they control an episode that has ended without injuries

The Mossos d’Esquadra they have cordoned off this Wednesday around 9:00 p.m. the bonanova square after a group of young people have thrown stones against the squats of The Ruïna and the Kubo and the squatters have responded by throwing paint balloons and also some stoneaccording to Catalan police sources.

The Mossos have permanently maintained citizen security patrols in place since last Monday. The agents have witnessed what happened and have intervened to quell the episode, which has ended without injuries. Riot control units have gone to the scene and those responsible for the operation have chosen to cut traffic to avoid any mishap.

The measure has spread a rumor in the neighborhood that an alleged eviction operation was imminent. But according to the police sources consulted, nothing has changed in this regard. The Mossos will act when a judge orders the eviction of ‘La Ruïna’, a circumstance with no known date. There is already an order to expel the squatters from ‘El Kubo’ but both buildings share space and for the security body it makes no sense to intervene until the space can be completely emptied. An opinion shared by the Barcelona City Council, which defends that squatting must end, but to do so it is necessary to do it simultaneously and by court order.

Sareb, the main owner of the two properties, has requested precautionary measures from the court to order the Catalan police to intervene before the end of a judicial process that may still last for some time. There is no record, however, that the court has ruled in that sense yet.

In Bonanova square, an hour after the incident, a hundred or so residents remain shouting against the squatted houses, from where they also make protest noises, and the impression prevails among the residents that the squatters will be expelled tonight, a an idea that has been inoculated by the head of the Desokupa company, Dani Esteve, who has given up trying to expel the squatters on his own – an illegal action – but who maintains the call to demonstrate against them tomorrow, Thursday.

Tomorrow’s day will be the most complicated: two demonstrations of the opposite sign will come together, since the one called by Desokupa will be answered, presumably, by another of self-styled “anti-fascist” activists.
