Ralfs Freibergs has had enough.
Ralfs Freibergs does not understand the IOC. Pasi Liesimaa
Ralfs Freibergs, the player of the Latvian national ice hockey team, is dismayed by the International Olympic Committee’s (IOC) recent policy.
IOC recommended earlier in Maythat international sports federations will lift their restrictions on Belarus and allow the country’s athletes to compete again.
Now, for example, the IIHF is considering whether Belarus should be included in the hockey World Cup again, news agency Tass tells.
– It’s a joke. The IOC spits in our faces, Freibergs storms to Iltalehte.
– We saw what the Russians did a couple of days ago in Ukraine. Now they are going to bomb Kiev again and kill people, the Latvian continues.
According to Freibergs, Russia and Belarus should have the same restrictions.
– They attacked at the same time.
Brutal thought
Freibergs trusts that Finland will vote correctly. Pasi Liesimaa
The experienced defender is ready to rethink the IOC recommendations if Russia ends the war.
– Until then, they have no way of coming back. I hope other countries will vote against Russia. I know that at least the Nordic countries, the Baltic countries, Poland and the Czech Republic are strict about it. I hope other countries don’t fall asleep and vote differently.
If we are brutally realistic, do you believe that the return will happen already during the war?
– It’s all about money. I pray it won’t. I want to be an optimist.
Freibergs does not doubt for a moment that hockey is an important political tool for Vladimir Putin and Alexander Lukashenko.
– Of course it is. Sport is politics.
