For the first time in the league’s history, a female referee will blow the whistle in the Sassuolo-Salernitana match in the 8th week of Italian Serie A.
In the statement made by the Referee Assignment Board, the referees who will blow the whistle in the 8th week of the league were announced to the public.
Referee Maria Sole Ferrieri Caputi, 31, has been assigned to the match where Sassuolo will host Salernitana at the Mapei Stadium. Thus, this weekend will be a first in Serie A history and Caputi will be the first female referee to manage a competition in the major league.
Caputi was included in the list of referees who can manage matches in Serie A at the beginning of the season.
