A Finnish skier who was rushed to the hospital by a rescue helicopter made a comeback: “Hard ride”

Markus Vuorela has recovered from his shoulder injury at the end of January.

– The shoulder is quite good. It didn’t hinder the skiing at all in Saturday’s competition, commented Markus Vuorela on Saturday after the Kuopio Suomen Cup freestyle 12 km intermediate start race.

Vuorela fell violently on the last weekend of January at the Goms World Cup and was rushed from the alpine village to the hospital by rescue helicopter.

A muscle tear was diagnosed in the skier’s left shoulder. The injury was detected on the basis of magnetic resonance images.

– There is no difference in skiing between the left and right shoulder. I’ve been healthy for two weeks. Training is almost normal. I can’t do all the movements in the gym yet.

Without tension

The accident in Switzerland happened on a right-hand bend, when the skier had a speed of 47 kilometers per hour.

On Saturday, Vuorela returned to competitions for the first time since his accident.

– Didn’t stress the bills in Saturday’s race. The wheels were in good condition, so nothing but hard driving.

Vuorela was seventh in Saturday’s race. He bowed to the winner of the event To Niko Anttola 41.8 seconds.

– It could have gone better, but otherwise a perfectly controlled performance.
