Finnish freestyle athlete Omran Chaaban has been chosen for UFC’s legendary program The Ultimate Fighter, UFC informs.

Chaaban will fight in the intermediate series. The winner of the program gets a UFC contract. In addition to Chaaban, seven other fighters are seeking a contract in that weight class.

Chaaban has fought seven matches as a professional, of which he has won six. Two of the wins have come by knockout.

The last time the Finn competed was in January, when he faced the UAE Warriors in the championship match of the intermediate series Wisem Hammam.

The Helsinki fighter defeated the reigning champion of the weight class in the fifth round with a side choke.

The welterweight title was significant for Chaaban’s career, as the UAE Warriors of the Emirates is one of the biggest promotions below the UFC.

Iltalehti’s combat sports expert Jaakko Dahlbacka said in January that the championship match was a big step.
