A fawn bitten to death for the third time within a week: ‘We will enforce’

For the third time in a week, a fawn has been bitten to death in the Brabantse Wal nature reserve near Bergen op Zoom. Forest ranger Erik de Jonge reports this on Twitter. According to him, the biting to death was done by a stray dog.

The forest rangers of the Brabantse Wal were well prepared for this period and, with the help of volunteers, had put up extra warning signs as a precaution.

Dogs on leash please!, as can be read on the board. “Despite this extra warning, people still let their dogs run loose,” writes De Jonge.

According to De Jonge, it is important that dogs are on a leash. “This is a vulnerable period when the fawns are born,” the ranger explained in the tweet. “Biting to death is a bad thing. We will therefore firmly enforce it in the coming weeks.”
