Finns ate a record number of cucumbers last year, and domestic greenhouse entrepreneurs are breaking records in cucumber and tomato cultivation.
The latest Horticulture Statistics show that a record 56 million kilograms of domestic cucumber were cultivated in 2025, i.e. almost two million kilograms more than the previous year.
The figure is an all-time record for cucumber cultivation. This means that every Finn eats about 10 kilos, about 28 different cucumbers a year. 110 companies grow greenhouse cucumbers in Finland in different parts of Finland.
– Cucumber is truly the favorite vegetable of Finns. There are certainly many reasons for its popularity: domestic fresh cucumber is available all year round and is easy to use. The degree of domesticity of cucumber is almost 100 percent, which indicates that consumers value domestic production, says the deputy executive director of the Finnish Garden Association Lassi Remes in the bulletin.
