A day at the largest and cleanest gas station in the world, ‘Aire de Berchem’: “You don’t have to be here for cheap petrol, but for the toilets and tobacco”

It’s the middle of summer and so it’s heyday for gas stations along the European travel routes. But even more so for that of Berchem in Luxembourg. With 51 available pumps and up to 25,000 passing tourists and truckers every day, this is the largest gas station in the world. Report from an ant nest – thirty times larger than an average highway station – where many Flemish holidaymakers are also at home, and that also for a completely different reason: “Such clean toilets, sir. You will not find that anywhere, not even in Belgium.”
