A blistering handball fight between Aalsmeer and Volendam; equalizer falls in the final second

Aalsmeer and Volendam kept each other in balance in the first round of the HandbalNL League. The North Holland handball derby ended in 28-28 in sports hall De Bloemhof.

Volendam started the game very nervous from an offensive point of view against the favorite Aalsmeer. The home team quickly took the lead and then kept Volendam at bay. Aalsmeer was nevertheless not accurate in the attack either. Bert Bouwer’s team failed to go to the changing rooms with an even wider margin. Halfway through it was 14-11 in favor of Aalsmeer.

The reaction of HV Volendam coach Geert Hinskens – NH Sport

In the second half, Volendam coach Geert Hinskens made some tactical changes that made his team much stronger. Jordy Baijens started playing in the build-up and this benefited the creativity in the Volendam attack.

Full booty

The match turned and Volendam quickly came alongside. Aalsmeer therefore suddenly faced a deficit halfway through the second half: 21-24. In the closing minutes it was then a penny change for the lead. With fifteen seconds left on the clock and with a 27-28 lead for Volendam, the visitors seemed to go home with a full booty. In the very last second, Vaidas Trainavicius from Lithuania scored the equalizer with a striking shot from a distance.
