The Belgian police are starting an investigation into the man who spit into Mathieu van der Poel during the E3 Saxo Classic on Friday. Both the organization of the cycling race and the police told the Belgian newspaper Het Laatste Nieuws to take action.
After the one -day competition he won, Van der Poel was confronted with the incident during the climb of Karnemelkbeekstraat in Ronse. He had not noticed it himself during the competition. “These people should not come to the course,” the winner said.
