Fear of heights and ski flying? This is a problem for ski jumper Philipp Raimund. In Planica, the 24-year-old pauses because of his fear.
Ski jumper Philipp Raimund regularly flies more than a hundred meters through the air, so this news comes a bit surprising: the 24-year-old suffers from fear of altitude.
The World Cup sixth from Oberstdorf is therefore only a spectator when skiing in Slovenian Planica (from 3 p.m. live in the first and at Sportschau.de).
Raimund explains start-up waiver
“I usually have it under control and usually it is not a problem with ski jumping, but from time to time I have the problem (especially when skiing) that my body reacts without checking it”Raimund said his waiver in social media.
“I lose control and for about 1 1/2 seconds I only watch myself while I’m in the claw that holds me.”
Start on Sunday still open
“95 percent” of his jumps are not affected, but Raimund does not want to take any risk in Planica, especially in Planica “If I don’t know if I am still the pilot or at least can react”. The two-time junior world champion now wants to look at the first three days, “To get a feeling for everything, watch and learn. And maybe I’ll fly on Sunday.”
The last jump of the season will take place in Planica on Sunday. “But I won’t fly if I don’t feel ready and happy for it.”
