The man lived in the social rental home since 2014. In recent years he bought three homes, one of which he later sold with surplus value.

The other two houses, both in Amsterdam, continued to rent the man. That came to light last year when the municipality came to take a closer look at one of the two addresses to see if the building was vacant. The residents told municipal employees that they rented the man’s home.

When it turned out that the landlord himself lived in a social rental home, the Ymere housing association was tipped. He then asked the house back because of ‘urgent own use’, something that normally only happens with a major renovation. When the man refused, Ymere went to court.

‘Detze’ and ‘Random’

The man spoke during an earlier session of a ditch, so drew Het Parool In December on. “The income from my homes does not outweigh the costs. I want to sell the houses, but it contains tenants that I cannot turn off. If I am selling it now there is no surplus value and there is not an option, I cannot pay that with my income as a freelancer in language education”

According to the newspaper, the man initially earned 2500 euros rent for one of his houses and 2000 euros for the other. The rental amount of his social rental home was less than 500 euros.
