This is stated by Pro Rail, who placed the height portals last night to protect its railway bridge from collisions. The underpass of the bridge is four meters and drivers with (too) high loads or trucks are regularly mistaken.
Nine collisions last year
Warning signs turned out not to be sufficient. “There were last year nine collisions Been “, the Province already reported to NH.” The height portals are the last obstacle for the railway bridge and is really the last resort to prevent collisions, “says Pro Rail.
Both the province and pro rail wants to prevent those collisions. “That is important to us, because collisions cause a lot of damage, nuisance on the road and for disruptions of train traffic. And want to prevent this in every possible way.”
A portal is on the south side, just in front of the Bhalotra bridge. The other, on the north side, is just past the intersection of the Zuidtangent with the N242 (Westerweg), near the bus stop.
Portals tested immediately
“The portals were placed last night and this morning there was a truck against it and cones were driven.” On social media a video goes around of that collision, with the message that the cones are too low. Pro Rail firmly denies that.
According to the rail manager, there is still a margin of up to 20 centimeters at the crossing height of the bridge. “The cones are 4.06 to 4.11 meters. That is even slightly higher than the standard. That means that the truck was too high. The cones have since been removed.”
Next week, Pro Rail will look at how the railway bridge can be protected without causing a danger to road users.
