Alpine is the only Formula 1 team that is still pointless after the first two season races in 2025-and is therefore on the last World Cup place. According to Pierre Gasly, the French could find themselves at the other end of the World Cup next year.
“I think the way and the shape we currently have, the structure we have is the strongest that I have seen at Alpine since I’ve been here,” reveals Gasly, who has been starting for Alpine since 2023, in the current issue of “Beyond the Grid”.
“The mentality and the way of thinking are the most important thing for me,” explains Gasly in the podcast and emphasizes that he sees “the will and faith” in the team, “that we can make it, and that was something that was missing when I arrived.”
“The will was there, but we really believed that it is possible? Probably not everyone,” admits Gasly. It is now different, which is why the previously unique Grand Prix winner hopes to be able to fight for the World Cup title for the first time in his career in 2026.
“I have [dem Team] Already last year said that it may be good that I don’t manage the finances, because if it were up to me, I would use all the money for the next year, “grins Gasly with regard to the new regulations from 2026.
Formula 1: Gasly sees “a huge chance” for alpine
In other words, he would already hire the development of the 2025 car in order to shift all resources to the coming year. “I don’t really care whether I seventh, sixth, eighth, ninth or tenth,” he emphasizes.
“I want to be on the podium and I want to win,” says Gasly clearly and explains: “I know that this year it doesn’t matter how much money we invest. We will not be able to make the gap and close the freight riders.”
“Next year, on the other hand, I see a huge chance as a team,” said Gasly, “and we could fight for the World Cup in 2026 if we do the right step when we take the right steps and make the right decisions for next year.”
And because under the current regulations you have no chance to close the big gap to the top until the end of the year anyway, be it “a very clear decision” for Gasly to focus on the 2026 regulations.
Incidentally, Flavio Briatore is a little more reserved. He recently explained in an exclusive interview with the global edition of “Motorsport.com”: “If everyone works together, I think that it is possible in 2026 to win races – and to fight for the championship in 2027.”
Pierre Gasly would even like that a year earlier.
