The shape crisis is pouring: tennis star Alexander Zverev received the next deep beat at the ATP Masters in Miami.

In the round of 16, the world ranking second against the Frenchman Arthur Fils lost 6: 3, 3: 6, 4: 6 despite leadership and break management in the decision -making round and missed its fifth move into the round of the top eight in Florida.

“In the third set I thought it was over when he opened it like that,” said Fils: “But I’m very happy with my performance.” In the quarter -finals, the Frenchman now meets the 19 -year -old Tschechen Jakub Mensik. The Zverev, on the other hand, loses his goal of getting number one in the world this year, more and more out of sight.

Fils had already taught a sensitive defeat in his hometown in 2024. At the ATP tournament in Hamburg, the Frenchman annoyed his opponent and won in three competitive sentences. This time, however, Zverev Fils did not let the game go well – a decisive break at the end of the first round was enough to win the set.

Early break in sentence three is not enough

Fils then complained clearly about back pain. However, his physio treatment seemed to be fruitful – and brought Zverev noticeably out of the concept. How transformed the Frenchman tore the game itself and clawed the second set.

In the crucial round it looked as if Zverev had caught up in time, but an early break was not enough for the Hamburg. Fils, who now showed his best tennis, also used the smaller uncertainties of the German mercilessly.

In the previous games in Miami, Australian Open finalist Zverev had actually improved again after prolonged weaknesses. In the absence of Jannik Sinner, who is still closed until May 4 because of his positive doping test from 2024, Zverev has set itself the goal of jumping to the top of the world rankings.
