The siblings Barbara Broccoli and Michael G. Wilson produced the “James Bond” film series for over three decades. After the franchise was sold to Amazon, they have now handed over the baton to the Amy Pascal and David Heyman team, who will take care of the production of the next 007 strip.
The new ones are old -established
However, the new ones are not unknown, but well -tried producers: inside of blockbusters. Because Amy Pascal took part in the “Spider-Man” films. In addition, she was co-chair at Sony for years and thus jointly responsible for financing and selling the Bond films “Casino Royale” (2006) and “Specter” (2015). To David Heyman: He was a producer of the “Harry Potter” film series and is now also involved in the newly planned TV series around the magical world.
According to the “Spiegel”, the two new producers felt honored and was decided to present the fictional figure unmistakably: “It is an honor for us to step into the footsteps of Barbara Broccoli and Michael Wilson, who have created so many extraordinary films. We are honored and are enthusiastic about keeping the spirit of Bond alive while he is going to the next adventure.”
Amazon bought Bond
For the background: Barbara Broccoli and Michael G. Wilson are the children of Albert R. “Cubby” Broccoli, who, together with Harry Saltzman, started producing the “James Bond” film series in the 1960s. Albert R. “Cubby” Broccoli died in 1996. Since “James Bond – Golden Eye” (1995), his daughter produced the films. Her brother got in a good ten years earlier, at “James Bond 007 – in the face of death” (1985). The film franchise was the property of the Broccoli family until the siblings sold the film franchise to Amazon. Jeff Bezos’ companies paid $ 8.5 billion.
What was recently known
What recently became known: The role of James Bonds will still only be given men who have a British nationality or one who belongs to the Commonwealth. An internal memo in the Amazon studio is said to have set this. “Daily Mail” quoted in this regard: “‘Amazon’ strives to keep the spirit of ‘Bond’ alive. And that means that it must be British or from the Commonwealth-and it must be male.” As I said, however, the quote is a suspected, internal, memo and not an official announcement. A statement that is intended for the public is still pending.
But who has been James Bond so far?
So far, six men played the iconic role of the 007 agent. Five of them were born in Great Britain and grew up there. One, George Lazenby, was born in Australia and grew up there. However, he moved to London and worked there as a model. He was supposed to be dressed as Sean Connery as James Bond and with his haircut.
Daniel Craig was the first James Bond to have no brunette hair. Which was initially reason enough to reject in the media. However, he received public support from several former bonds and former bond base. And when “Casino Royale” came to the cinemas, Daniel Craig was ultimately enthusiastically accepted as James Bond. In the next 007 adventure, however, he will no longer be seen as a main character.
What changed
Anyway: The takeover of the MGM Studios by Amazon and an additional deal about the bond rights recently changed everything for the agent film series. The Saga’s long -time developers kicked off. Since then it has been around in the spy headquarters.
But ex-producer Barbara Broccoli is said to have insisted that Bond remains British before she agreed to sell the corresponding rights to Amazon. The purchase price is said to have 770 million pounds. After the transaction, there had been violent friction and comments by the long -standing creative team.
Fans and insiders had repeatedly complained about the Amazon Studios efforts to develop spin-off models. Among them one that focuses on the early days of 007S secretary Miss Moneypenny. A kind of youthful side narrative under the roof of the MI6 secret service center. So far there have been 25 Bond films, starting with “Dr. No” from 1962.
Nevertheless, the search for a new bond continues. In conversation with fans: Aaron-Taylor Johnson, Ryan Gosling and Chris Hemsworth.
