Does the municipality of Zoetermeer rock the most tiles in 2025? On March 21, the NK Tegelwips started with the aim of replacing as many tiles as possible with grass, flower beds, trees or facade gardens. You can contribute (uhm … tile) by making your own garden greener.

“Our living environment is strongly petrified,” says creative agency Frank Lee, the organization of the NK Tegelwips. “All those stones do not cool down on a hot day and do not let any water when it rains. That rainwater can then overload the sewer or walk into your basement. This counteracts this.”
Participate in the NK Tegelwips
Zoetermeer is participating in the Dutch Championship this year. As a resident you lend a hand by removing tiles from your garden. You have the time up to and including 31 October 2025. Then pass on the number of ‘sailed’ tiles and a proof photo via via this site.
How big is a tile?
A tile is 30 by 30 centimeters. You must convert smaller or larger tiles to this format. Eleven tiles go in a square meter.
Maybe superfluous to report, but you can only rock your own tiles. So don’t go to the garden of your neighbors tiles or remove stones from a public sidewalk.
Bring tiles for free
Have you been inspired and are you about to make your entire garden tile -free? Then it is good to know that you can deliver the tiles to a maximum of three (portable) bags to the Self -Tot depot for free. Do you also have sand? Then you also count that with those three bags.
Municipality helps

The municipality of Zoetermeer wants to set a good example by greening a few places in the city. On the Wildenberg they replace tiles through green on a square between the houses. The square in the Leidsewallen shopping center will have new plants, just like the shopping area of the Dorpsstraat.
Tile position
At the end of the competition, on 31 October, it will be examined which municipality has collected the most tiles. On the site You can view an intermediate position until then.
The municipality of Venlo won the NK Tegelwips in 2024 in the category large cities with no less than 414,395 weeped tiles. Vlaardingen came out as the winner at medium -sized municipalities with a final score of 103,791 tiles and at the small municipalities Halderberge won with 102,822 tiles. In Zoetermeer, Zoetermeerders removed 7200 tiles and exchanged that for green. Nice and busy!
