UWV will check 43,000 disability benefits for errors. This is apparent from a first analysis of 220,000 WIA benefits for the period January 2020 to December 2024. That analysis showed that there is no reason for the other WIA benefits to suspect errors. The use of UWV is that this spring is starting to correct benefits. From March, the organization will start informing beneficiaries. This is what Minister Van Hijum of Social Affairs and Employment writes in a letter to the Chamber.

Start correct

UWV wants to start checking WIA benefits on a small scale. This is part of the learning approach, in which we look carefully at unintended effects. For example, a modified benefit can have consequences for the allowances, for the premium that the employer pays or for the additional benefit that the pension fund pays out. In the context of this learning approach, first experiences are gained with checking with a limited group of 20 people who have reported themselves to UWV. They can choose whether they participate.

Minister Van Hijum: I understand very well that many people yearn for clarity. UWV now also makes a start with that, and that is progress. But I also want it to happen well at once, even if it takes some extra time. And very important: this must happen together with the people who have been duped. Their interest must be paramount.

Reclaim

The minister once again emphasizes that it is very cautious about recovering. Only if the benefit was higher than the earlier wage will it be considered whether it was reasonably clear that the benefit was too high. This also takes into account the consequences that a possible recovery has.

Sage wage

Checking the WIA benefits is about daily wages. Errors about the calculation of the Maatmanloon were also recently known. UWV is currently investigating this, the results are expected in April.
