Staatsbosbeheer wants another fixed catering facility at ‘t Nije Hemelriek. That is a long -term plan, first focuses on a kiosk in the form of a sea container.
Until last summer, the pavilion of entrepreneur Tom Orsel was on the beach at the swimming pools, but the tent was destroyed in a fire. For a long time it stopped at Staatsbosbeheer about how and when new hospitality industry would come to ‘t Nije Hemelriek, but now a vacancy has been put online. Entrepreneurs have until Friday 11 April to submit a plan.
With the popular recreational area between Borger and Gieten, a space of up to 70 square meters is available. In this area there is room for a kiosk in the form of a sea container, the rest can be used for a terrace.
In addition, the entrepreneur must have experience with running a catering establishment and contributes to a ‘hospitable and positive experience’. One of the other tasks is to keep the area neat and clean around the kiosk.
In the first instance, Staatsbosbeheer indicates that there is room for one kiosk, but in the near future the possibility for extra kioskruimijen will be investigated.
In the longer term, the plan is to get another fixed catering facility at ‘t Nije Hemelriek. But because this takes a lot of time, Staatsbosbeheer first chooses the sea container.
After the pavilion of entrepreneur Tom Orsel burned down at the beginning of the summer last year, he decided as a temporary solution to create a snack car in the recreational area, so that there would still be catering at the lake. However, he did not receive permission here from Staatsbosbeheer and Pand rental company Werkplein Drentsche Aa (WPDA).
They went to court after Orsel refused to remove the snack truck. The entrepreneur therefore decided to remove the car after two weeks, because according to him it “didn’t make sense anymore.”
There was also a sea container as a temporary kiosk on the beach before. That was in 2022 and 2023, as an extra temporary catering facility. And also intended to keep an eye on things at the swimming pools and to prevent clutter.
This pop-up kiosk ‘beach 34’ was run by entrepreneur Siska Kanninga, owner of a catering company in Gasselte. According to Staatsbosbeheer it was an ‘asset’, because there was especially less mess in the area.
