450 million kilos of electronics waste annually

State Secretary Chris Jansen (Environment and OV): ‘In the Netherlands we throw away 25 kilos per person every year. In total that is a mountain of 450 million kilos per year. That is often unnecessary waste. Consumer electronics can last longer if repair becomes the norm. In this way we use fewer raw materials that we can use in a different place. “

Repairing is just

Martin Hof, industry manager consumer electronics at Techniek Nederland, also believes that repairing should be: ‘More and more consumers realize that we have to deal with our devices more economically. Repairing is usually cheaper than buying new and better for the environment. With the National Repairers Register You can easily find a professional repair company. “

Warranty conditions

In the National Repairers Register you can also find information about the warranty conditions that apply to consumer electronics. The website also offers practical data about circular initiatives, such as Repair Cafés, circular crafts centers, thrift stores and Wecycle, the collector of electronic waste.

Right to Repair

With the register, the government and the electronics industry give substance to ‘Right to Repair’. This European legislation must make it easier for consumers to have consumer electronics repaired. The Netherlands is the first country in Europe with an official register that is supported by the government and the repair industry.
