He used to keep the goal of the German national team, today he is in conflict with the law. Eike Immel is accused of quirky fraud.
The former national goalkeeper Eike Immel was supposed to answer to the Marburg District Court on Thursday morning for allegations of fraud. But there was no negotiation-the 64-year-old reported sick.
According to the indictment, Immel is said to have borrowed money from different people several times without repaying it, as the “Bild” newspaper reported. In total, it is about a sum of 34,000 euros and 106 individual deeds. He is also accused of selling tickets for a soccer game from the European Championship without actually being able to get or want to get them.
Immel had already registered private bankruptcy in 2008 and now lives support from 563 euros per month. Despite his financial problems, according to media reports, he should regularly afford a cleaner whose costs are covered by friends – as well as his cell phone bill and daily restaurant visits for around 28 euros.
One of the victims is a consultant Michael Lampel, who showed Immel in 2023. Accordingly, the former keeper has kept lying on smaller amounts between 80 and 1000 euros for months. Immel claimed to be in Qatar shortly before a contract, which should bring him 120,000 euros a month. The public prosecutor accuses him of never intended to have intended these repayments and not be able to do.
The presiding judge Wieland Stötzel announced that the court received a medical certificate on Wednesday evening. This certifies Immel an “unable to negotiate disease” until March 31. A new date for the process has not yet been determined.
It would not be the first conviction for Immel: As early as 2008, he had to pay a fine of 5,200 euros due to fraud, after icitting a pensioner 15,000 euros and had not repaid the money.
