33 years ago he made Michael Schumacher his debut in Formula 1. Now Eddie Jordan is dead.
The sports world mourns the loss of Eddie Jordan. The former sponsor Michael Schumacher died after cancer at the age of 76. As the family agreed with the family, Jordan died on Thursday in the early morning hours with his loved ones in Cape Town.
In December of last year, he had made his bladder and prostate cancer public, spoke in the “Formula for Success” podcast of how “aggressive” cancer was. The Formula 1 legend from Ireland experienced a difficult time. “It was a few very dark days, but I got out of that,” reported the former team leader and team owner Jordan. Now he has lost the fight against cancer.
Jordan encouraged the joint podcast with the former Formula 1 vice world champion David Coulthard men to go to preventive examinations. “Don’t push something like that on the long bench, but let you test. There is so much help out there to extend your life. Don’t be stupid,” he said. There is also no reason to be ashamed of examinations or visits to the doctor, but you should always be good with your body.
Jordan was Schumacher’s first boss in the motorsport king class in the early 1990s. The later record world champion Schumacher drove his first and only race for Jordan’s racing team in Spa-Francorchamps in 1991. Then he left the team and switched to Benetton.
Without Jordan, the history of motorsport would be poorer. As a driver, he was active in lower formula classes, celebrated some victories and was even allowed to test a Formula 1 car from McLaren. “I used to have the dream of becoming world champion, but then I got to the point at which I knew I couldn’t do it as a driver,” said Jordan once.
