The Tour de France 2027 will start in Edinburgh Scottish. Tour organizer ASO announced this on Wednesday.
The first three stages of the 114th tour of France will therefore lead through Scotland, England and Wales. After the start in London in 2007 and in Yorkshire 2014, it is the third start of the tour in Great Britain.
The starting point for Tour de France Femmes still open
The Tour de France Femmes will also begin in the United Kingdom in 2027. A starting point will be announced.
Tour director Christian Prudhomme described Edinburgh to the AFP news agency as a “magical” city. For some time now, he has considered the Scottish capital, but so far the seclusion has spoken against it. The starting shot will be taken on July 2, 2027.
Big Spectator interest At the start of 2014
The last start at the British island in 2014 triggered great enthusiasm, more than three million people had lined the streets. “The success of the population was absolutely phenomenal,” recalled Prudhomme.
After three Grand Départs abroad (Copenhagen, Bilbao, Florence), this year’s tour (July 5th to 27th) starts in Lille. In 2026 it starts in Barcelona – for the first time in the history of the tour with a team time trial.
